In Proverbs 27:17 we find the words, “Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.” This verse is continually used for men’s and discipleship ministries around the world. Accountability groups employ this as their “theme verse” to galvanize the sharing of struggles and victories. And, to be honest, I’ve always sort of thought of this verse as somewhat cliché in those contexts. Like the old saying, “Familiarity breeds contempt.” For many Christians, familiarity breeds complacency. And what should inspire “life-on-life” relationships often doesn’t. For me, though, I’ve found a new appreciation for this verse, especially as it relates to my friendship with today’s guest, Meiko.
In this episode, I’m joined by pastor, author, and blogger Meiko Seymour. Meiko is a dear friend who I met while ministering with The Majesty’s Men brotherhood. But our bond goes beyond the blogosphere and into real life. He is truly a person who sharpens me, spiritually and personally. Meiko has a hunger for God and a zeal for relationship that is unlike anyone I’ve met before. I am much better for knowing him and I am so thankful to call him brother. Enjoy this lively conversation as we talk about adversity, faith, and the God behind it all.
